"Summer was on the way; Jem and I awaited it with impatience. Summer was our best season: it was sleeping on the back screened porch in cots, or trying to sleep in the treehouse; summer was everything good to eat; it was a thousand colors in a parched landscape; but most of all, summer was Dill."
So wrote Harper Lee in her classic To Kill a Mockingbird.
Summer is on the way. Whether summer is your best season or just another season... Whether you sleep in your own bed or someplace more exotic... Whether you prefer watermelon or corn on the cob, bratwurst or veggie burgers... Whether the landscaped is parched or rainy... Whether you host friends from afar or travel yourself... May your summer be a time of refreshment for body and soul. May you do whatever it is you are awaiting with impatience (especially after this spring!!). May you reconnect--with nature, friends, family, yourself.
The formal program year of the church ends this month with the service on June 29. We'll meet back in the chapel for services beginning the Sunday after Labor Day. But you don't have to go all summer without church. UU sermons abound on the internet. Just Google Unitarian Universalist sermons, if you're looking for some thought provoking, inspiring words over the next couple of months. And closer to home, the board and some committees will continue to meet. And there will be church socials and workdays. Watch your e-mail and the newsletter for information about when and where and how to connect with church folk over the break.
I'll be around much of the summer, reading and preparing for the coming year. If you'd like to see me, please call first to be sure I'm at the church, or to set up an appointment.
