
One of the joys and obligations of membership at MSUS is becoming involved in the church community. There are many ways to get involved at MSUS. These include:

Regular activities
Circle Brunches and Circle Suppers are held in the fall and spring
- A Holiday party held during December, including a special family service in the evening of December 24th
- Monthly potlucks held the second Sunday of the month after the service
- A Service Auction is held in the Fall, and a Rummage and Flower Sale is held in the Spring
Interest groups
Book Discussion Group - meets monthly to discuss a variety of books
- Women's Book Club - women meet at 9 am the first Saturday of each month at MSUS to discuss books by women authors
- Men's Group - a discussion, support, and social group for men
Committees
Adult Religious Education - organizes classes for adults on religious or spiritual topics to allow deeper exploration of our beliefs and values.
Building and Grounds - works with Land and Facilities Committee to recruit volunteers for planting, weeding, and grounds cleanup.
Caring - organizes support, including cards and visits, for members dealing with life events such as births, illnesses, and deaths in the family or financial hardship.
Religious Education - selects curricula, works with Director of Religious Education to provide a meaningful church experience for our children and youth.
Finance Committee - this committee is responsible for coordinating the financial Activities of MSUS, including organizing the annual pledge drive, reviewing and approving special fundraisers, and advising the Board on investments of MSUS funds.
Land and Facilities Planning - plans for present and future needs of the church, including furnishings, art, repair of capital equipment such as parking lot.
Membership & Communication - welcomes visitors, helps new members become assimilated, recruits and trains greeters, publicizes MSUS, and considers the ways MSUS can better meet the needs of all its members. Also maintains and updates the MSUS internet page.
Ministry - Known as the COM (Committee on Ministry). provides guidance and support for the professional ministry.
Nominating - The only committee other than the Board of Trustees to be elected by the congregation. Nominates candidates to serve on Board of Trustees.
Service Leaders - extend worship leadership and participate in developing and leading Sunday services.
Social Action - guides the Society's discussion of UUA study resolutions on social justice; organizes volunteers for Meals on Wheels, Transitional Housing, SACA contributions; provides financial support for Alexandra House, UUSC and Guest at Your Table.
Social Activities - organizes fun activities for the members such as parties, theater, concerts, and movie or game nights.
Sunday Services - plans themes and recruits speakers for Sunday morning adult services.
Welcoming Congregation - conducts the UUA curriculum designed to help congregations become more welcoming places for gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender people. Other curricula may include racism, ageism, ableism or other groups who may feel unwelcome in society.
Volunteer Opportunities
Cleaning - instructions for cleaning the church are on the bulletin board. A cleaning service will be taking over most cleaning duties starting in the fall of 2007.
Coffee/Treats - make coffee and juice for children and provide treats
Flowers - bring flowers for Sunday Services
Nursery - be available as backup care for babies and toddlers so their parents can enjoy the adult service.
Greeters - welcome members and visitors, answer questions, escort visitors to coffee afterwards
Grounds maintenance - monthly during the summer to weed the flower beds. Major tasks such as raking and pruning are done during the spring and fall.
